Compass (2022)

Site-specific work

Skuodas town park

After being invited with other artists to create an artwork for Skuodas town park, I stumbled upon Skuodas disctric identity connection with boulders. "A land of boulders" municipality would say. I was interested how boulders are used to give an identity to a place or to mark a place, while boulder's identity is based on a long and slow movement that gave it a shape. This paradoxical relation to geological movement and anthropic stability asked for an equilibrium. My solution was to make an abstracted composition of an object that is fixed in a place, but always proposes a vector of movement - a compass needle.
